Nagri Lifts Women’s Soccer Past Eastern Nazarene, 1-0

BOSTON – With just under six minute remaining in regulation and zeros on the scoreboard, Alexandra Nagri was determined to end the game in regulation as the junior stuffed the ball into the back of the netting to lift Suffolk women's soccer over Eastern Nazarene, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 1, Eastern Nazarene 0
RECORDS: Suffolk (1-1-0) | Eastern Nazarene (0-2-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Eastern Nazarene controlled the quality time of the first frame, but Suffolk turned up the volume in the second stanza. Ten of the Rams' 14 attempts came in the second 45 minutes, with six coming off the cleat of Nagri.

At the midway point of the second half, Nagri rattled an attempt off the cross bar, before Griselda Minchaca made a one-hand dive to stop the midfielder's shot just three minutes later. Nagri sent another shot Minchaca's way with under 14 minutes to go off a feed from Jessica Harmon, but the Lions' keeper's gloves made the save. The Rams' next best look was Harmon, who dribbled up the field nearly 60-yards on a breakaway, but once again Minchaca kept Suffolk off the scoreboard.

Following a high Eastern Nazarene shot, Suffolk burst down the field and finally connected thanks to set up from Madelyn Whipple and Harmon, Nagri put away the game winner at 84:13.

GAME WINNER
Whipple drew the defense to the 40-yard line and dished ahead to Harmon. Harmon then drew two Eastern Nazarene defenders to herself and found Nagri waiting on the right hand side to neatly sneak the ball past Minchace for the score.

  • In her first action this season, Minchace made nine saves in the setback.
