Women’s Lacrosse Stopped by UNE, 14-8

EAST BOSTON – Suffolk women's lacrosse netted two goals per quarter, but it would not be enough to get by the Nor'Easters as the University of New England took down the Rams, 14-8, Wednesday night in Conference of New England (CNE) action at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 8 | UNE  14
RECORDS: Suffolk (6-7, 2-3 CNE) | UNE (5-6-1, 3-1-1 CNE)

HOW IT HAPPENED
UNE put the first two goals of the game away in the first 2:15 seconds to force Suffolk to play catchup. The Rams made up that ground thanks to strikes by Ally Colburn and Jessie Le to level the playing field at the end of the first 15 minutes.

The Nor'Easters controlled the second stanza as it outscored the blue-and-gold 5-1 in a 12:20 span to build a 7-3 lead. Colburn, who scored Suffolk's lone goal in that UNE rally, completed her hat trick with 2:06 left before halftime to trim the margin to three, 7-4.

Out of the break, UNE restored the four-goal gap 39 seconds out of the break, before goals by Julia Dickinson and Zoe Peckham over a 1:45 span made it a two-goal game, 8-6, with just over 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter.

The Nor'Easters musted up two more markers in the third and limited Suffolk's scoring to send the host into the final frame down 10-6.

A free position shot by Dickinson2:02 into the fourth quarter looked to spark the Rams offense yet again. UNE had other things in mind as it responded with four unanswered to stretch its advantage to 14-7 with just under three minutes to go in regulation.

Colburn converted a free position shot of her own with 27 seconds on the clock for the 14-8 final.
