CASTINE, Maine – Suffolk women's lacrosse dropped an 11-7 game to Maine Maritime Sunday afternoon at Ritchie Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk fell in a three-goal gap as the Mariners opened the game with three unanswered in the first 7:19 of play.  

With 2:20 remaining in the opening quarter, Ally Colburn put the Rams on the scoreboard to make it 3-1 in MMA's favor at the end of one. 

Colburn put the second of the game away 24 seconds into the second stanza to trim the gap to one, 3-2.  

Momentum shifted back in the Mariners' favor and they netted three straight strikes to send Suffolk into the locker room down four, 6-2. 

Eliza Bryant was the first player to score out halftime as the freshman's first of the game at the 2:11 into the third quarter trimmed the margin to three, 6-3. 

Maine Maritime had an answer 1:30 later to restore the four-goal gap, but the Rams retaliated with three straight to make it a one-goal game with 3:43 remaining in the third. The markers came off the sticks of Julia Dickinson, Colburn and Zoe Peckham in that order.  

The back-and-forth continued as Hazel Stoddard scored her fifth of the day to lengthen MMA's lead back to two, 8-6, at the end of the third. 

Two quick goals by the Mariners got the fourth frame underway and once again restored the four-goal margin with just over 10 minutes left in regulation. 

Colburn potted her fourth goal of the day to in the hopes of igniting a spark for Suffolk's comeback. It was MMA that would found the back of the cage next though as Stoddard scored her seventh of the game for the 11-7 final.  

GOALIE LOG

  • Charlotte Guziejka registered 12 saves in the setback. 
  • Ella Bowes recorded 10 stops in the victory for the Mariners.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Colburn led Suffolk's offense with four goals and one assist. 
  • Bryant had one goal and one assist to go along with three draw controls. 
  • Dickinson and Peckham recorded on goal each. 
  • Guziejka collected five ground balls and Gracelyn Laperle scooped up four. 
  • Lauren Woods registered three draw controls. 
  • Kate Carlson caused three turnovers. 
  • Maine Maritime had the upper hand in draw controls, 13-9. 
  • The Mariners also held a 22-21 in ground balls. 
  • Suffolk went 20-for-26 in clear attempts. 
  • The Rams converted 1-of-4 free position shots, while MMA went 2-for-3 in free position shots. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Colburn, and Dickinson have scored in every game this season. 
  • Colburn had her third consecutive hat trick, third in as many games and in her collegiate career. 
  • Colburn had four goals for the third time in as many games. 
  • Peckham produced a goal in back-to-back games and tallied a career-high three draw controls.
  • Dickinson has recorded a goal in every game this season. 
  • Goodman (3) and Laperle (4) notched personal-best in ground balls. 
  • Bryant dished out the first assist of her collegiate career and matched a personal-best there draw controls.

Suffolk remains in Vacation Land Tuesday, March 11 for a 1:00 p.m. tilt with Maine Farmington at Smith Field on the campus of Thomas College in Waterville, Maine.
