Women’s Hockey Falls in Regular Season Finale to WNE, 4-2

BOSTON – Power play goals plaques Suffolk women's hockey in its regular season finale as Western New England skated by the Rams, 4-2, Saturday at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A power play puck put away by Alyssa Murphy at the middle of the first period allowed WNE to gain a one-goal edge over Suffolk.  

The Golden Bears doubled that distance 5:31 into the middle period as Maddie Pope found the back of the net.  

Suffolk started to catch up at the 12:14 mark when Jenna Caballero chipped the pucka way. The junior was set-up by Liv O'Brien and Liliana Moose

Moose scored her own goal 4:18 later thanks to set-ups from Kate Pohl and Sammy Lassman to even things at 2-all.  

A penalty would cost the Rams in the third as Mabel Gerard converted a go-ahead power play goal 5:42 into the final period to give WNE a lead it would not give up. 

Suffolk made one final go at evening the score when it pulled Katelyn Michals from her post in between the pipes, but Murphy netted an empty netter instead for the Golden Bears for the 4-2 final. 

NETMINDER NOTES

  • Michals had 28 saves in the setback. 
  • Rachael Irving notched 29 saves in the victory. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Moose notched one goal and one assist. 
  • Caballero tallied one goal. 
  • Lassman, O'Brien and Pohl dished out one assist each. 
  • WNE held a slim 32-31 edge in shots. 
  • The Rams won the face-off battle, 38-25. 
  • Suffolk was unable to take advantage of one of its three power play chances. 
  • WNE went 2-for-4 on the power play.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Caballero scored her first goal of the campaign. 
  • Lassman (2g, 2) and Moose (2g, 1a) produced points in back-to-back games. 
  • O'Brien had her second assist of the season. 
  • Pohl recorded her sixth assist of the year.

Suffolk is likely to have a rematch with Western New England in the 2025 CNE Tournament. The official bracket will be released following the conclusion of play today.
