Women’s Hockey Slips Past Trinity, 2-1

EAST BOSTON – Suffolk women's hockey wrapped up its first semester schedule with an exclamation point as it scored two unanswered goals to hand Trinity a 2-1 loss Saturday at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating RinkCassidy Gruning tied the game before Madison Duff pushed the Rams ahead on the power play, while Lily O'Neil did her job in the night to help the blue-and-gold to victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Following a scoreless first, Ethel Whielmsson taped in Martina Exnerova's pass to put Trinity on the board at the 9:12 mark of the middle period.  

Gruning leveled the playing field for Suffolk when the senior chipped in Duff's slap shot from the point. Sam Molind aided in the game-tying goal that came at the 13:50 minute mark. 

Third time was the charm for Suffolk on the power play as Duff fired the go-ahead marker seven seconds after Annika Dyczkowski took a seat in the box for holding. The captain sniped a shot from the right face-off dot past Stephanie Garvis to give the Rams a 2-1 edge with 4:32 left in regulation. Livia Brehm and Miranda Gaudet aided on the goal.  

O'Neil continued to take care of business from there as the junior netminder made five saves the rest of the way with a pair of blocks from the blue-and-gold defense to keep the Bantams off the board. 

NETMINDER NOTES

  • O'Neil finished with 33 saves in the victory. 
  • Garvis logged 15 stops in the setback. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Duff recorded one goal and one assist. 
  • Gruning produced one goal. 
  • Brehm, Gaudeet and Molind tallied one assist apiece. 
  • Trinity controlled the pace of the game with a 34-17 shot advantage. 
  • The Rams won the face-off battle, 27-24. 
  • The blue-and-gold went 1-for-3 on the power play and successfully skated off its two penalties.

  • A game between Suffolk and Trinity was decided in regulation for the first time in program history. 
  • Suffolk remains unbeaten versus Trinity all-time, 2-0-1. 
  • The Rams have won two games in a row versus the Bantams. 
  • Molind pushed her point streak to four games. In that span she has handed out four assists. 
  • Brehm (3a), Gaudet (1g, 3a) have produced a point in the last three games. 
  • Gruning (1g, 1a) had notched point in back-to-back games.
