BOSTON – Suffolk women's hockey continues its postseason quest as the sixth-seeded Rams make the trip to third-seed Southern Maine Saturday, Feb. 29 for the NEHC Semifinals. Puck drop at USM Ice Arena is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Quarterfinals – Saturday, Feb. 22
Game 1: #1 Norwich defeated #8 Salem State, 9-0 – Box Score
Game 2: #7 Plymouth State defeated #2 Castleton, 2-1 – Box Score
Game 3: #6 Suffolk defeated #3 Johnson & Wales, 2-0 – Box Score
Game 4: #4 Southern Maine Defeated #5 UMass Boston, 2-1 (3OT) – Box Score 

Semifinals – Saturday, Feb. 29
Game 5: #7 Plymouth State at #1 Norwich – 3:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
A pair of goals over a 55-second span and stand-up netminding by Julia McLellan helped the sixth-seeded Suffolk women's hockey team upset third-seed Johnson & Wales, 2-0, Saturday night at Lynch Arena.

RAMS REVIEW
Suffolk takes a two-game win streak into the semifinal showdown. Over that stretch, that put the Rams' overall record at 9-14-3 on the year, the blue-and-gold has outscored its foes 7-1.  

Maddy Burton's 21-point performance powers Suffolk's 57-goal scoring. The junior leads the way in assists with 11 to go along with 10 goals. Shana Cote compliments the junior with 19 points behind a team-best 11 markers and eight helpers. 

In net, Julia McLellan has taken on the bulk of the load. The Rams' rookie holds a 3.06 GAA and .902 save percentage in 20 appearances, 18 starts.  

SUFFOLK IN THE NEHC TOURNEY

  • Suffolk is in the midst of it second straight NEHC post-season appearance. 
  • The Rams are in the field as the sixth seed for the first time. Suffolk is 1-0 when playing as the sixth seed. 
  • The blue-and-gold will play on the road in the NEHC Tournament for the second time. Suffolk is 1-0 when playing as the away team in the playoffs. 
  • Suffolk advanced to the semifinals for the first time in program history. 

HAVE TO KNOW 'BOUT THE HUSKIES
Southern Maine secured the fourth seed in the NEHC playoffs thanks to a 9-7 league ledger. In the quarterfinals the Huskies need three overtime to eliminate UMass Boston, 2-1, and head into Saturday's showdown 12-12-2 on the year.  

As a team, USM has found the back of the net 50 times this year. The well-balanced offense is powered by the duo of Julianne Nelson and Shannon Colbert, who each found the back of the net eight times. Nelson paces the pack with 14 points with six set-ups, while Colbert is second on the squad with 13 points with five handouts to her credit as well.  

Whitney Padgett has defended the net in all, but three of the Huskies outings. She sports a 2.16 GAA and .928 save percentage. 

WE MEET AGAIN
Suffolk split the regular-season two-game series with the Huskies, winning the battle in Boston, 3-2, and falling 5-2 in Vacation Land.

INSIDE THE SERIES 

  • Suffolk boasts a 2-1-1 all-time record versus Southern Maine.
  • The Rams have yet to defeat the Huskies in Gorham, Maine. The blue-and-gold is 0-1-1 at USM Ice Arena. 
  • The blue-and-gold holds the lone shutout in the series, a 3-0 decision in the Bay State, Dec. 1, 2018. 
  • The foes went into overtime once, Feb. 1, 2019, at Southern Maine with the contest ending in a 2-2 stalemate.
