EAST BOSTON – The Suffolk women's hockey team scored three unanswered strikes to skate past UMass Boston, 3-1, Friday night in NEHC action at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Each side had a man-up chance in the first stanza, but both defenses backed up their netminders to keep zeros on the board. Not long after the blue-and-gold killed of Madison Duff's holding penalty, the Rams broke open the scoring. Jesse Kennedy found Sydney Tietz slicing through the neutral zone. The forward from East Gull Lake, Minnesota fire from right outside the right face-off circle and sniped the over Caty Flagg's left shoulder to make it a 1-0 Suffolk score with less than two minutes remaining in the opening period.  

In an even second stanza, Suffolk looked to add to its margin on its second power play of the day. The Beacons had other things in mind, however, and Jane Morrissette had Boston's best chance of the day when the senior went on breakaway. Kristen Caporusso played leveled headed and turned aside Morrisette's strike to keep the hosts' one-goal lead intact.  

Down the stretch, both sides had another extra skater opportunity, but once again the defenses kept things where they were to keep Suffolk ahead by one.  

Boston commanded the opening portion of the third period with a comeback in mind. Caporusso held onto the one-goal edge for the Rams with a stand-up performance in between the pipes.  

With just over seven minutes left on the clock, Suffolk's offense started to heat up to add to the Rams' cushion. Tess Adams put her first of back-to-back strikes away at the 12:48 minute mark on a two-on-one with Shana Cote and Flagg. The senior put her second marker of the day away just 3:32 later with a set-up from Cote once again and Haley Poloskey to lengthen the lead to 3-0.   

The Beacons persistence paid off and they erased the shutout on their fourth power play of the night. The visitors caught Caporusso off guard in transition to slice the margin back to two with 2:25 remaining in regulation. Morrisette was the one to put the goal away with help Ellie Fallieras and Kelsey Ryan.  

In a last-ditch effort, Boston pulled Flagg from the cage. The extra skater did not give the Beacons' a boost though and the 3-1 score stood in Suffolk's favor.   

NETMINDER NOTES

• Caporusso had a 22-save effort in the victory. 
• Flagg finished with a 23-stop performance.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

• Adams and Cote each had two-point nights. The former scored twice, while the latter dished out two assists. 
• Tietz scored one goal for one point. 
• Kennedyand Poloskey each recorded one assist.  
• Suffolk outshot UMass Boston, 26-23. 
• The Rams won the battle in the face-off dot, 24-21. 
• The Beacons went 1-for-4 on the power play, while Suffolk was unable to capitalize on its three extra skater chances.  

NOTEWORTHY

• Suffolk defeated UMass Boston for the first time to move to 1-0-1 all-time versus the Beacons. 
• Tietz notched her first collegiate goal. 
• Adams her third multi-goal game of the season with the senior matching a career-high two goals. 
• Adams extended her point streak to six games. In that stretch, she notched five goals and a pair of helpers. 
• Kennedy has set-up one shot in back-to-back games. 
• Cote and Poloskey pushed their point streak to three contests. Cote has registered six assists in such outings with Poloskey tallying four goals and one helper.
