Women's Golf Bests Westfield State in Season Opener, 341-464

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Suffolk women's golf shot past Westfield State, 341-464, Sunday at the Shaker Farms Country Club to open its 2022 season. 

The Rams claimed the top five spots to keep their record against the Owls in dual matches all-time (3-0). The outing marked the first time since 2017-18 that Suffolk lifted the lid on its campaign in a head-to-head match. With the win, the blue-and-gold is 2-1 in head-to-head season debuts. 

Isabel Smith took the top spot easily. The junior from Westford, Massachusetts, shot a 79 on the par 86 course. She had one birdie, six bogeys and one double bogey on her score card. 

Paige Irving and Sophie Kiley were seperated by one stroke. Irving, a junior from Belmont, New Hampshire, had an 86, while Kiley, a junior that calls Brookefied, Massachusetts, home, boasted a card of 87. Irving had a pair of birdies, nine bogyes and three double bogeys. Kiley, meanwhile, registered one birdie, six bogeys and four double bogeys. 

Smith's classmate, Ellie Yarbrough slid into fourth with an 89 (+17). The Killingworth, Connecticut's native's most impressive shot came way of an eagle on hole 18. 

Olivia Lanci, who made her collegiate debut, rounded out the Rams with a fifth-place performance behind a score of 92. 

Suffolk will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 24 when it battles Husson in a head-to-head match at the Bangor Municipal Golf Course.
