BOSTON – Suffolk women's golf's seventh season gets underway this Sunday, Sept. 11 with a head-to-head match against Westfield State at Shaker Farms Country Club at 1:00 p.m.

RAMS REWIND
Suffolk's sixth season featured the Rams' third NEIGA Championship, and a runner-up showing at the NWGC Championship.  

RAMS ROSTER
Suffolk's six-player roster is comprised of five returners, Paige Irving, Sophie KileyMadison ScheinbergIsabel Smith and Ellie Yarbrough, and one newcomer, Olivia Lanci.  

RAMS ROOKIE
Suffolk women's golf will have a very similar look with just one new fresh in its line-up as Olivia Lanci joined the Rams for the 2022-23 campaign.

GEOGRPAHY 101
Suffolk's 2022-23 geographical footprint covers four states in Connecticut (Yarbrough), Florida (Scheinberg), Massachusetts (Kiley, Lanchi & Smith) and New Hampshire (Irving). 

CLASS CATEGORIES
The Rams roster features six student-athletes. A quartet of hails from Suffolk's Class of 2024: Paige IrvingSophie KileyIsabel Smith and Ellie YarboroughMadison Scheinbergcame back for a graduate season and Olivia Lanci joined the program as a sophomore. 

COACH'S CORNER
Jay Parker
 has been the one and only head coach of Suffolk women's golf since the program began in 2016-17 and returns to the helm for his seventh season in 2022.

In his six seasons, Parker has coached the Rams to a three NEIGA titles and has seen student-athletes shine individually. Under his guidance, the program has produced one Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NWGC) individual medalist, two NEIGA individual champions, seven All-NWGC honorees, a dozen All-NEIGA selections and two All-Empire 8 nods.

Parker will be aided with an assistant coach as former standout Nicole Antonucci returned to the Rams in a coaching role for her second season.

LIFT THE LID

  • For the first time since 2017-18, and third time in Suffolk women's golf's history, the Rams will tee off in a head-to-head competition.
  • The Rams are 1-1 when competing head-to-head in their season debut. 

THE COURSE
Shaker Farms Country Club is a public course with a par of 72. The golfers will face off against the course's long fairways, water hazards, and carefully placed sand traps.

OWLS OUTLOOK
Sunday's matchup between Suffolk and Westfield State is the Owls first competition of the fall.  

In his second season, Jeff Gelinas, has assembled a four-member squad of all returners. The Rams' NWGC foe, finished seventh at the conference championships a year ago.  

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk is 2-0 when competing against Westfield State in head-to-head matches. 
  • The Rams took the first meeting, 399-457, Sept. 23, 2017 at The Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Massachusetts. 
  • A year ago, the blue-and-gold bested the Owls, 355-455, Oct. 3, 2021. That outing took place at the Shaker Farms Country Club in Westfield, Massachusetts. 

WHAT'S ON TAP NEXT?
Suffolk has back-to-back head-to-head matches next weekend. The Rams will first make the trip to Bangor, Maine to take on Husson at the Bangor Municipal Golf Club Saturday, Sept. 24. The next day, the blue-and-gold will go to Nehoiden Golf Club in Wellesley, Massachusetts, to face Wellesley.
