WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Suffolk women's basketball fell in its regular season road finale as Hartford ran by the Rams, 71-56, Wednesday night at Chase Arena in Conference of New England (CNE).

HOW IT HAPPENED
After three lead exchanges and a pair of tied scores, Hartford went on a quartet-ending 15-2 run that put the Rams in an 11-point, 22-11, hole at the end of the first 10 minutes. 

That gap grew to 18 at the 6:34 mark of the second stanza. The Rams rallied back within eight, 36-28, thanks to a 12-2 stretch. Jordan Moreau had four points and Amanda DeAngelis supplied six points to the cause. 

Hartford commanded the pace of play over the last 4:23 minutes before halftime though and Suffolk faced a 15-point deficit, 44-29, to go the third quarter underway.  

Momentum remained in the Hawks' favor out of the locker room and the host flew out to a 21-point advantage at the 7:01 mark.  

Six quick Suffolk points got the distance down to 15 once again. Hartford closed out the third quarter on an 11-2 spurt and the Rams found themselves chasing 24, 64-40.

A comeback loomed for the blue-and-gold in the first 3:23 of the final frame as Suffolk scored eight unanswered to pull within 16, 64-48. 

Back-and-forth action closed out the game, which sealed Suffolk's setback.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • DeAngelis notched 17 points on a 7-for-16 showing from the floor to go along with eight rebounds, three steals and one block. 
  • Colby Guinta contributed 15 points on a 5-for-10 effort from the field and a 4-for-5 showing at the charity stripe. The junior added a pair of caroms and one takeaway. 
  • Moreau pitched in eight points, five boards, two helpers and one steal.
  • Maddie Stewart put together a six-rebound, five-point, two-steal, one-assist performance.
  • Suffolk shot just 33.9 percent (21-62) from the floor, 6.7 percent (1-15) from 3-point land and 61.9 percent (13-21) from the foul line. 
  • The Haws outrebounded the Rams, 39-36. 
  • The Rams converted Hartford's 16 turnovers into 19 points. 
  • The Rams scored 14 points on the fastbreak.
