Women’s Basketball Rolls to Fifth Straight Win, Downs Gordon, 64-41

WENHAM, Mass – Every Ram contributed a point to help Suffolk women's basketball secure its fifth triumph in a row, a 64-61 decision over Gordon Wednesday night at the Bennett Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk scored the first six points of the evening, which foreshadowed how things were going to go. The Rams kept Gordon off the board until the midway point of the first frame and limited the Fighting Scots to just seven points in the first 10 minutes, which allowed the blue-and-gold to build a 17-7 lead.  

The distance nearly doubled at halftime as Suffolk stood in front, 35-18. 

The Rams maintained a double figure margin, 50-36, at the end of the third quarter despite being outscored by the hosts. 

Gordon looked to get in the swing of things in the beginning of the fourth, but Suffolk scored nine consecutive points to put the game just out of reach.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Allie Lopes led an offensive output that saw all nine Rams' players score. Lopes had 14 points behind a 5-for-10 effort from the floor, which included a 2-for-6 showing from downtown. She added three boards and three steals.  
  • Jenni-Rose DiCecco added 14 points, six handouts, two steals and one rebound. 
  • Emily Welling was on the verge of double figures with nine points to go along with eight caroms and one helper for an all-around evening. 
  • Gabriella DeComo provided eight points, six boards, one takeaway and block, respectively. 
  • Gordon outrebounded the Rams, 41-32.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • The Rams ran their win streak to five straight, which marks the most victories in a row since stringing six triumphs together Dec. 30, 2018-Jan. 24, 2019. 
  • Suffolk and Gordon renewed a rivalry, meeting for the first time since Nov. 15, 2008. 
  • The Rams kept their record against the Fighting Scots unblemished, moved to 3-0.
