Boston, MA -- Freshman Julianne Conrad’s
(West Bridgewater, MA) 23 points and 12 rebounds and senior Kerry Bowman’s
(Guilford, CT) 19 points and six rebounds led the Suffolk
University Women’s Basketball team (2-0 GNAC, 8-4 overall) in
a 75-48 victory over St. Joseph’s College (Me)
(0-2 GNAC, 7-8 overall) Thursday night at Suffolk’s Regan
Gymnasium.
Conrad shot 9-16 from the field, including a 4-7 performance from
beyond the arc. Bowman was 5-11 from the field and 1-1 from three,
as Suffolk shot 7-10 from three for the game. Senior Meghan Tracey (Rehoboth, MA)
added 11points and 11 rebounds for the Rams.
Meghan Daigle led the Monks with 20 points. Carolyn Freeman also
added 17 points for St. Joseph’s.
The Monks cut the Suffolk lead to 44-39 after a three-point play
from Freeman with 16:01 left in the contest, but a 27-5 explosion
for the Rams over the next 11 minutes made it 71-44. Conrad led the
run with ten points.
The Rams outscored the Monks 36-17 in the second half after leading
39-31 at the break. Suffolk’s defense took over in the final
20 minutes as it held St. Joe’s to an embarrassing 4-24
shooting, good for 16.7%. St. Joe’s only shot 12-53 for the
game, good for 22.6%.
The Rams travel to New Hampshire Saturday afternoon when they take
on Rivier at 3 p.m.
