Softball Shutouts Simmons in Game 2, 7-0

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Lily Newhall twirled a one-hit, two-walk gem to anchor Suffolk softball to a 7-0 game two triumph over Simmons at Daly Field Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 7 | Simmons 0
RECORDS: Suffolk (5-9) | Simmons (6-10)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk put up six runs in the top of the sixth and never looked back. Diana Rucinski led off the stanza with a double and scored two batters later on a routine fielder's choice that was over thrown by the Sharks' third baseman. Back-to-back walks allowed the second run to come in before Lily Gustafson collected an RBI on a single to left field.

The Sharks made a handful of adjustments in the field including a change in the circle. The fresh arm was no match for the Rams, however, as Julia Mills knocked a two-run single to center and Sara Butera brought in one run on a sac fly for the 6-0 cushion.

Teagan Buckley managed to muster a lead-off single down the right field line to get the home half of the second underway, but Newhall dealt from there as she did not let up another hit the rest of the way to keep Simmons off the board.

A one-out, solo shot by Catherine Carignan in the sixth inning extended the margin to 7-0  and back-to-back three-up, three-down innings by Newhall preserved the shutout victory.
