BOSTON – The sixth seeded Suffolk softball team looks to escape elimination Thursday morning in the CCC Tournament contest against fifth seed Roger Williams. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the Softball Park on the campus of Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts.

SUFFOLK IN THE CCC TOURNAMENT

  • Suffolk is in the midst of its third straight trip to the CCC Tournament. 
  • The Rams are competing in the CCC postseason as the sixth seed for the first time. 
  • Suffolk captured its first CCC Tournament win Tuesday in the CCC Play-In Game over the University of New England. 
  • The Rams are 1-3 when playing at Golden Bears Softball Park in the CCC Tournament.  
  • The Rams are 1-1 in the Megan Cook era in the CCC Tournament. 
  • Two CCC Tournament games for Suffolk have been decided via run-rule, both came in 2023. 
  • Suffolk is 0-2 when a game is determined via mercy-rule.
  • The Rams have needed extra time to decide a winner in the CCC Tournament once, the 2024 CCC First Round Game against Nichols. 
  • Suffolk fell in its only extra-inning CCC Tournament contest, 7-6, in 10 innings to Nichols. 

SUFFOLK IN CONFEREENCE POSTSEASON ACTION

  • The Rams are in the middle of their 23rd trip to the postseason, third straight. 
  • Suffolk owns one conference crown to its credit, the inaugural Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) title in 1996. 
  • Suffolk is the sixth seed in a conference tournament for the second time in program history, first in its CCC tenure and first since 2008, when it played as the sixth seed in the GNAC Tournament. 
  • The Rams are 1-2 when playing in a league tournament as the sixth seed, and 1-1 in the CCC Tournament as the sixth seed. 
  • The blue-and-gold has never hoisted a league banner when an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Tournament has been on the line.   

LAST TIME OUT
The sixth-seeded Suffolk softball team came back in the seventh, took the lead, but the third seed Bison of Nichols tied things up in the bottom of the inning and eventually walked off the CCC Tournament contest in the 10th inning, 7-6 Tuesday afternoon at the Golden Bears Softball Park.

RAMS RUNDOWN
After winning the play-in game and slipping to Nichols in game one of the first round of the CCC Double elimination bracket Tuesday, Suffolk sits 19-23 on the season.  

Julia Mills and Becky Zellin have both brought 26 runs in to anchor the Rams' offensive output. Mills has a tema-best 45 hits and has scored 18 times herself, while Zellin has supplied 39 hits and 25 runs. Catherine Carignanrounds out the top three blue-and-gold batting threats with 42 hits, 22 RBI and 20 runs.  

Pitching wise, Lily Newhall (102.1 IP, 2.87 ERA, 37 K) and Cynthia Rucinski (102. IP, 4.94 ERA, 81 K) have taken on the bulk of the workload in the circle. 

HAVE TO KNOW 'BOUT THE HAWKS
Roger Williams fell to fourth send Wentworth, 4-3, in the first round of the CCC Tournament to find its way into the elimination bracket.  

Taylor Howell has brought in a team-best 23 runs on 35 hits with 11 runs scored. Shannon Starratt has provided 37 hits, 16 RBI and 26 runs. 

Raegen Germano is the usual twirler for the Hawks. In 101.2 innings she has assembled a 1.65 ERA with 78 strikeouts. Keira Quadros (50.2 IP, 1.66 ERA, 29 K), Natalie Lundari (39.0 IP, 3.59 ERA, 25 K) and Skye Merrow (47.1 IP, 4.14 ERA, 25 K) have taken the rubber in double-digit games as well. 

WE MEET AGAIN
Suffolk was swept in the regular season double feature at Roger Williams, April 21, 2024. The Rams fell in game one, 5-2, before dropping the nightcap, 7-3.

  • Suffolk is 8-8 all-time against Roger Williams.
