Men’s Cross Country Places Eighth at NCAA DIII East Regionals

HOPKINTON, N.H. – For the second straight season, Suffolk men's cross country raced to eighth place at NCAA Division III East Regionals Saturday at Hopkinton Fair Grounds. It was a case of déjà vu all over as the Rams hosted the event for the second time in as many season as well.  

The Rams combined for 252 points to tie the program's best regional finish.  

No. 20 MIT (43) edged out No. 19 Tufts (61) to claim the regional crown by an 18-point margin. WPI rounded out the podium finishers with a 128.  

Suffolk's squad was the best Conference of New England (CNE) program in the regional event that featured 

Endicott (14th), Wentworth (15th), University of New England (20th), Gordon (21st), Nichols (25th), and Curry (32nd) all in the 33-team field. 

RAMS RUNNERS

  • Like the team finish, Tim Barry paced the Rams runners on the course for the second consecutive campaign. The captain closed a 25:43.03 to claim 25th in the 228-runner field. 
  • Hayden Green came through the finisher's chute nine spots behind Barry in 34th with a 25:54.74 showing. 
  • Sean Jacobsen and Thomas Novy finished one after another. The former clocked a time of 26:43.76 and the latter finished in 26:46.70.
  • Cam Fredette was the last scorer for Suffolk. The sophomore slid into 76th with a 27:13.36. 
  • Connor Hayward (27:55.80) and Jadan Wenceslao (30:31.25) rounded out the Rams on the course in 110th and 169th, respectively. 

ALL-REGION

  • Both Barry and Green garnered United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-East, which is awarded to the top 35 finishers.  

RAMS RECORDS

  • Jacobsen produced regional bests, both time (26:43.76) and finish (58th). 
  • Hayward had his best regional time of 27:55.80.  

THAT'S A FIRST

  • Wenceslao made his regionals debut. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk tied a program-best eight-place team finish. It is the second time in as many years that the Rams claimed eighth. 
  • Suffolk hosted NCAA DIII East Regionals for the third time in program history, second straight season and second time at Hopkinton Fair Grounds. 
  • Barry claimed his second straight USTFCCCA All-East Region. He is the second-ever Ram to have multiple all-region nods joining Matyas Csiki-Fejer, who owns a program-best three. 
  • Green picked up his first USTFCCCA All-Region honor of his collegiate career. 
  • Novy became the first male Ram to run at four regional races.
