Men’s Cross Country Sweeps CCC Weekly Awards

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Suffolk men's cross country garnered both Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) weekly awards as Thomas Novy was tabbed the league's Runner of the Week and Sean Jacobsen took home the conference's Rookie of the Week, the CCC office announced Monday.

The accolades come after the pair's performances at the Bowdoin Invitational where Suffolk claimed third in the 11-team field. The Rams, who were ranked eighth in the latest regional rankings, finished ahead of Babson, which was ranked ahead of the blue-and-gold in seventh.

Novy posted a personal-best time of 26:35.7 in the 8k race. He placed 12th overall among a field of 123 runners. Jacobsen, meanwhile, ran his first collegiate 8k in 26:47.4, good for 16th. He was the first CCC freshman to cross the finish line Saturday.

The awards haul marks the second time in CCC history that Suffolk men's cross country swept the weekly awards, first since Sept. 20, 2021. Novy is the first Ram to be tabbed the best CCC runner over a seven-day stretch since Matyas Csiki-Fejer picked up his fifth-honor of the 2021 season, Nov. 1, 2021. Jacobsen, meanwhile, is the league's best rookie since Tim Barry picked up the accolade Sept. 20, 2021. Both Novy and Jacobsen received a weekly recognition for the first time in their collegiate careers.

Suffolk is idle until Saturday, Oct. 15 when it hosts the Suffolk Invitational at Franklin Park. That meet will also serve as the Battle for Boston Common, a head-to-head competition between the Rams and Emerson.
