Csiki-Fejer Collects Third CoSIDA Academic All-District Honor

CoSIDA Release

BOSTON – Matyas Csiki-Fejer of the Suffolk men's cross country and track & field team continues to make Ram Nation history as the senior standout was once again awarded for his combined academic and athletic accomplishments as he was selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Cross Country/Track & Field Team, the organization announced Thursday.

Csiki-Fejer is one of 10 NCAA Division III competitors in District 1, which is comprised of Maine and Massachusetts, honored. He is the lone representative from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) to be voted onto the prestigious list. The Manchester, Missouri, native has made Suffolk history with each of his of three CoSIDA Academic All-District nods. As a sophomore in 2019-20 he was the youngest Ram awarded the distinction, as well as the first member of Suffolk's men's cross country and track & field programs to do so. A year ago, he picked up his second nod in as many years, the first Ram to do so, joining an elite list of student-athletes in the University's annals to take home a pair of district academic accolades. This year, he rewrote the record book as the first-ever Suffolk student-athlete to take home the recognition for three straight years, every season he has been eligible for the accolade.

Suffolk has 24 academic all-district distinctions in its history from CoSIDA dating back to 2004, 13 of which have come over the last six seasons. In addition to Csiki-Fejer's third honor, Nigel Leo of the men's soccer team took home the feat this year as well in the fall.

Csiki-Fejer is one of, if not the most, decorated Suffolk student-athlete in the University's history. The first-ever student-athlete to race to All-America status in cross country, a feat he achieved in the fall of 2021, is just one of the many marks he set in the record books. He has competed at NCAAs three times, twice in cross country and once in indoor (2022) and is set to make his fourth appearance at the outdoor national meet this weekend. Regionally, he has been recognized a half dozen times across cross country and track & field and has been named a conference's top runner or track athlete of the year four times since 2019.

His success has not been limited to athletic. A week ago, he served as the College of Arts and Sciences student Commencement Speaker before he earned a dual degree in political science and legal studies with an unblemished 4.0 grade point average over his entire undergraduate course work. This year he picked up a pair of CCC Scholar-Athlete recognition for the cross country and track & field seasons, respectively. These honors are in addition to numerous coach's association and all-conference academic nods.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot where first-, second-, and third-team Academic All-American will be named next month following a vote by COSIDA members within their division.

Awarded by CoSIDA to the most accomplished student-athletes for academic athletic achievements each year since 1952, this is the longest-running and most prestigious academic and athletic award for student-athletes to receive.

Csiki-Fejer looks to add more to his nomination resume this weekend when he competes at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The long-distance runner is the first male Ram to earn his way to the national meet and is set to compete in the 5000 Saturday, May 28 at approximately 3:25 p.m.
