Men’s Cross Country Captain Trio Returns for 2021

Men’s Cross Country Captain Trio Returns for 2021

BOSTON – Suffolk men's cross country will once again be led by the threesome of Matyas Csiki-FejerNic Malmand Hunter Toyoda, head coach Will Feldman announced Wednesday afternoon. The trio was the first set of captains under Feldman's guidance in 2019 and will lead the blue-and-gold into a new era, competing in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) in the same role.

"Having consistence leadership has been an asset for us, and it's been amazing to watch these young men evolve as leaders," Feldman said. "Nic, Hunter and Matyas have been rock solid for us since they stepped on campus. The program wouldn't be nearly as successful without their leadership. They work extremely hard, and set a high bar for their teammates."

Feldman continued, "No matter their personal achievements they've always put the team and their teammates first. I am so proud of each of them, and the underclassmen are lucky to be able to learn from them this year."

Prior to the cancellation of the 2020 campaign, the triad were regular scoring members for the Rams, who have made their program known at not just the conference and regional ranks, but nationally as well. Csiki-Fejer individually put the blue-and-gold on the NCAA Division III map in 2019 when he made history as the first male student-athlete to race at the national championships.

That accolade is one of many for Csiki-Fejer who has quickly became the most decorated male cross country Ram in the record books. He was Suffolk's first-ever GNAC Rookie of the Year in 2018 and upstaged that a year later as the conference's individual champion. The two-time all-league honoree athletic accomplishments do not fall short of his academic accolades that include a pair of Academic All-American from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), as well as multiple academic awards United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Toyoda's bib has been right on the heels of Csiki-Fejer's throughout their careers. He earned points at the 2019 GNAC Championships with a 12th-place performance, good for a spot on the league's second-team. Malm, meanwhile, shows his competitive nature in the classroom and adds depth to the roster on the course.

With the tri-captains at the head of the program, Suffolk will get back on the course for the first time in nearly two years at its own Short Course Classic Friday, Sept. 3 at Franklin Park.
