NEW LONDON, Conn. – Three Rams punched their ticket to New Englands Friday night as Suffolk men's outdoor track & field's long distance runners competed at the Silfen Invitational.
Thomas Novy produced a personal record in the 5000 with a 14:49.54 to earn his spot at regionals. Not only did his performance earn a place in the 5k, but also in the 10k. He is the second Ram to break 15 minutes in the 5k in program history, first since Matyas Csiki-Fejer.
Both Hayden Green and Cam Fredette sealed a spot at regionals in the 10k. Green ran the event in 32:52.26 to take seventh, while Fredette finished in 33:09.01, good for 12th. The sophomore and freshman are the third and fourth Rams to ever qualify in the 10k, joining Csiki-Fejer and Novy. Sean Jacobsen was just four seconds off from qualifying with a time of 33:46.61.
Suffolk was also represented in the 800. Tim Barry led the three blue-and-gold runners in the event with a 1:57.84 to claim eighth. Evan Wright joined the sub-2:00.00 club with a 1:59.94 and Kely Maloney raced to a 2:01.68.
