BIDDEFORD, Maine – For the third time this season, Suffolk men's outdoor track & field has seen three Rams garnered weekly recognition from the Commonwealth Coast Conference, the league office unveiled Monday afternoon. Matyas Csiki-Fejer and Carter Nevulis garnered track awards as athlete and rookie, respectively, while Michael Balestra picked up his third straight field athlete of the week nod. The accolades come following the blue-and-gold's outing at MIT's Sean Collier Invitational.
Csiki-Fejer added another first-place finish to his list of accomplishments as he took the top spot in the 1500. The senior from Manchester, Missouri bested a field of 42 runners with a personal-best time of 3:54.84. The time is good enough fourth on the NCAA Division III East Region Outdoor Performance List.
Balestra bested a 20-thrower field in the hammer throw in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The senior, who calls Lincoln, Rhode Island, recorded a heave of 52.87 meters, which is the 35th best mark on the NCAA Division III Outdoor Qualifying List and the second-best showing in the east region.
Nevulis, a sophomore from Plymouth, Massachusetts, finished fourth in a 16-runner field in the 110m hurdles. He finished with a regional-qualifying time of 15.51.
Suffolk has garnered a weekly nod in each week the league has handed them out. Over five weeks, the Rams have earned a dozen awards. Balestra has three to his credit, all field athlete, and all of which have come in consecutive weeks. Csiki-Fejer owns three as well, all track athlete. Nevulis has a pair of track rookie of the week accolades to credit, while Tim Barry and Thomas Novy garnered that same title once. The final award belongs to Suffolk's 4x400 relay team of Selvin Backert, Robert Solari, Joshua Durand and Cole Bolduc, who combined to be the CCC's first relay team of the week March 29.
The CCC Championship is up for grabs this weekend when the teams converge on Gordon's Brigham Athletic Complex in Wenham, Massachusetts Saturday, April 30.
