Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Trio Honored with CCC Weekly Awards

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – For the second time in as many weeks and in program history, Suffolk men's outdoor track & field saw student-athletes receive weekly recognition from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). Matyas Csiki-Fejer was named Track Athlete, while Thomas Novy and Edward Abouzeid earned rookie of the week status in track and field, respectively. The weekly accolades come on the heels of performances from last weekend's Tufts Snowflake Classic.

The three weekly honors are the most by Suffolk in its CCC era, upstaging last week's pair of honors that were taken home by Tim Barry (track rookie) and the 4x400 relay team of Selvin BacketRobert SolariJoshua Durand and Cole Bolduc (relay). Csiki-Fejer is the first Ram to be named the CCC Track Athlete of the Week and Abouzeid is the first Suffolk student-athlete to garner a field weekly award from the league. Since the CCC has handed out weekly awards only a Suffolk student-athlete has been named the best track rookie over a seven-day stretch in Novy with this week's nod and Barry with last week's distinction.

Csiki-Fejer, a senior from Manchester, Missouri, placed second in the 1500 with a time of 3:58 and qualified for the New England Championships in the process. His performance currently sits second in the NCAA Division III East Region.

Novy, also a distance runner, made his outdoor debut in the 5000. The Simsbury, Connecticut, product put together a third-place performance with a 15:25.24, which is the 10th-best time in the region, and was less than a second away from punching his ticket to regionals.

Abouzeid placed fifth in the javelin with a program-record throw of 43.26. The freshman from Norton, Massachusetts competed in outdoor for the first time in his career Saturday.

Suffolk has a hectic weekend ahead with three different events on its calendar. Csiki-Fejer received a special invitation to run at the Duke Invitational Friday, April 8. The rest of the Rams will split up between the Regis Spring Invite Friday, April 8 and the Gordon Invitational Saturday, April 9.
