INDIANAPOLIS – For the first time in program history, Suffolk men's indoor track & field will be represented at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships as senior captain Matyas Csiki-Fejer ran his way to the national meet in the 3000, the NCAA announced Sunday night.
Csiki-Fejer will take his talents to the national stage this weekend March 11-12 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with Visit Winston-Salem and Guilford College serving as hosts.
For each men's individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. A native of Manchester, Missouri, Csiki-Fejer clocked an 8:09.43 3k, the fourth-best performance by a DIII student-athlete in the event this season, at the Boston University's Last Chance Meet, Feb. 27, 2022, to earn his place at NCAAs.
The long-distance runner is the first Suffolk male student-athlete to collect a bid to the national tournament and is also the only GNAC member in the field this season as well. For a complete list of 2022 qualifiers, click here.
Historically speaking, Csiki-Fejer is the third third-ever Ram to do so as the women's squad has sent two in the program's history in Emily Manfra and Emma Weisse. Manfra, who is the only two-time blue-and-gold participant at indoor NCAAs, was the last Suffolk student-athlete to make the trip, doing so in 2020 before the championships were cancelled due to COVID-19.
Csiki-Fejer, who already made history this year as the first Ram to collect All-America honors in cross country, looks to add even more hardware to his shelf next Saturday. Members of Ram Nation can follow the action at NCAAs here.
