MALDEN, Mass. – For the third time this season, Suffolk men's indoor track & field saw multiple conference weekly awards as Matyas Csiki-Fejer and Carter Nevulis combined to sweep the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades. CSiki-Fejer was named GNAC Track Athlete of the Week, while Nevulis grabbed GNAC Field Athlete and Rookie of the Week.
The laurels come on the heels of standout performances from the senior and freshman at Boston University's Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invite.
Csiki-Fejer cruised in the 3000 to the seventh-best time in NCAA Division III this season and the second-best showing in New England this year at 8:12.57. The captain, who ran against some of the best competition in the country with student-athletes from every NCAA division including top NCAA DI programs Stanford and Harvard, managed to take eighth in the 45-runner field Saturday.
Nevulis put together a pair of highlight performances. In the 60m hurdles, the Plymouth, Massachusetts, native produced a personal-best time of 8.70 to claim 14th in New England. In the triple jump, the rookie broke the school record with a 12.50-meter leap.
When the three awards are added to the Rams' 2021-22 weekly award haul Suffolk now has seven weekly nods. Csiki-Fejer collected his second of the season and second in as many weeks, while Nevulis owns four weekly accolades as he picked up track and rookie of the week Dec. 14. Michael Balestra is responsible for the other weekly honor on the blue-and-gold's shelf with the best rookie over a seven-day stretch title Jan. 25.
The twosome looks to push Suffolk to another GNAC Championship Sunday, Feb. 13.
