Men’s Soccer Sees Program-Record Earn United Soccer Coaches All-Region

2024 United Soccer Coaches Division III All-Region Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Suffolk men's soccer saw a program-record three players pick up All-Region distinction from by the United Soccer Coaches association as Nathan HarlowJack Phelps and Francisco Valck grabbed spots on the All-Region II Second-Team, the organization announced.  

The trio earned all-region for the first time in their respective careers. They are the first Rams to pick up the feat in the same season in program history. Bill Maddock's squads have been represented on the all-region list by at least one student-athlete over the last four seasons starting in 2021. Overall, Suffolk's men's soccer squad owns six all-region honorees, all of which have come in Maddock's tenure.

With the help of this threesome, Suffolk played its way to the Conference of New England (CNE) crown for the first time in program history and made the program's second-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Rams bowed out of the Big Dance in the first round to finish the historical season 10-7-5 overall marking the third consecutive campaign with double-digit victories.  

Harlow had a standout sophomore season in net for the Rams. The keeper from London, England started all 19 games he appeared and assembled a 1.05 GAA and .804 save percentage en route to a 9-5-5 overall record with seven shutouts. He was a crucial component to Suffolk's CNE Championship as he compiled back=-to=back persona-best 10 save efforts in the semifinals, a 1-0 shutout of Western New England, and the championship, a 2-2, double overtime stalemate versus Roger Williams.  

Phelps, a fifth-year senior defensive midfielder left everything on the pitch appearing in all 22 games and starting 20. Offensively he contributed one goal and two assists, all of which came against CNE counterparts. He scored the game-tying goal in the league opener, a 1-1 tie at Gordon Sept. 21 and went on to aid to the game-winning goals against the University of New England Sept. 28 and Western New England Oct. 26, both of which were narrow one-goal decisions.  

Valck, a sophomore forward from Weston, Florida, topped the Rams' 36-goal offense with seven strikes on his stat line to own the team's top spot in points as well with 14. A pair his markers pushed the Rams to triumphs in the season-opener, a 4-1 Beantown win over Emmanuel Aug. 30, and at Nichols, a 2-0 shutout, Oct. 12. 

The three Rams are three of the 10 CNE student-athletes recognized by United Soccer Coaches on the all-region squads with players from Curry (1), Endicott (3), Roger Williams (2) and Western New England (1) garnering the distinction as well.
