Men’s Soccer Ties Roger Williams, 1-1

EAST BOSTON – Suffolk men's soccer responded to Roger Williams first half goal with a second half strike to even the score at 1-all, but neither team was able to break open the tie the rest of the way for the Conference of New England (CNE) contest to end in a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 1 | Roger Williams 1
RECORDS: Suffolk (8-6-4, 5-1-2 CNE) | Roger Williams (8-7-3, 3-3-2 CNE)

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the 23rd minute, Roger Williams' Max Patenaude zoom down the pitch on a breakaway to test Nathan Harlow early. Suffolk's sophomore dove on the ball to stop the attempt and keep zeros on the board.

About 10 minutes later, the Hawks managed to break onto the board. Murphy Malone lofted a go-ahead ball to Dylan Thomas, who dribbled down the right side of the field. He put a shot on target that was blocked by TJ Maselek. The rebound bounced off Maselek and rolled past the goal line to give the Hawks the 1-0 edge.

The Rams response came in the 61st minute. Taj Jensen and Diego Pierantozzi did a give-and-go on the left sideline before Jensen dribbled towards the center of the met. Once RWU defense committed to him, Jensen slipped a pass to a waiting Luke Blawn, who one touched it open to level the playing field at 1-all.

Five minutes later Brady Sorensen had a chance to push the blue-and-gold in front. Hogan Cain attempted to stop Sorensen from shooting, but was tripped up and landed on the turf. Sorensen was by himself and let a shot go, but it hit the post instead of the netting and things remained even at 1-1.

A couple Suffolk corner kicks were no match for the Hawks defense and things remained locked at 1-all with five minutes to go in regulation.

The Rams had one final chance to get the go-ahead as Dominic Rinaldi drew a foul about 20 yards out from the Hawks net. Valck took the free kick and it went wide right to hold things at 1-all at the final whistle.
