BOSTON – Suffolk men's soccer returns to its home turn, James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park, for a Saturday, Oct. 7 Commonwealth Coast Conference affair with Nichols. The Breast Cancer Awareness contest has a 3 p.m. first kick.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk men's soccer saw its longest win streak in over 16 years come to an end Monday night as the Rams were tripped up in a Beantown battle by Boston College, 2-0, at the Newton Soccer Complex.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk is having one of its best seasons to date at 7-3-1 overall and is off to its best CCC start at 2-0-0.  

The Rams' offense has poured in 23 goals over 11 games with 15 players producing at least one point.Diego Pierantozzi leads the way with 12 points behind a team-best six goals. Francisco Valck's 10-point stat line is divided between three markers and a squad-high four helpers. Matthew Belluardo has found the back of the net three times as well, while Tommy Handelsman has set-up four strikes also. 

Nathan Harlow has started seven of Suffolk's 11 games in goal. The freshman holds a 1.14 GAA and .795 save percentage for a 5-2-0 mark with a pair of shutouts. 

BISON BREAKDOWN
Nichols (6-4-1, 1-1-1 CCC) rides momentum from its 3-1 win at Fitchburg State into Saturday's showdown.  

William Pugliese-Savage is a huge threat offensively with an impressive 19 points on nine goals and one assist. He is the main ingredient to the Bison's 22-goal offensive output. Tristan Phillips has supplied four goals to the scoring and Juanesteban Hincapie has rounded out the top point trio with two goals and one helper. 

Derek Axon has started the bulk of games in net for Nichols. He holds a 1.49 GAA and .769 save percentage with a 4-3-1 record and a pair of shutouts. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk is unbeaten (1-0-1) all-time against Nichols in a series that dates back to 2021. 
  • The Rams first and only win over the Bison came via a 1-0 decision Oct. 9, 2021. 
  • Last season, the blue-and-gold tied Nichols, 1-1, Sept. 16, 2022. 
  • At home, Suffolk is 1-0 against Nichols. 
  • The Rams have never scored more than one goal against the Bison. 
  • Both meetings in the series have taken place during the Bill Maddock era.

For the first time in program history, Suffolk men's soccer picked up votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25, the poll revealed Tuesday afternoon. Additionally, the Rams rose one spot to a program-best No. 2 in the United Soccer Coaches Region II rankings.

RAMS RECOGNITION
For the second time this season, Francisco Valck of the Suffolk men's soccer team was named Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week after producing one game-winning goal and two assists in a 2-0-0 week for the Rams, the league office announced.
