Men’s Soccer Moves Up to Third in United Soccer Coaches’ Regional Rankings

UNITED SOCCER COACHES REGION II RANKINGS

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On its best start in Commonwealth Coast Conference play in program history, Suffolk men's soccer has earned the highest regional ranking in the Rams' record book as Bill Maddock's squad grabbed third in Poll III edition of Region II via United Soccer Coaches.

Suffolk made the program debut in the regional ranks in the fourth spot of Poll I, Sept. 12. A week ago, the Rams landed fifth before blanking Mass. Maritime, 4-0, Sept. 19 and defeating Endicott, 4-1, Sept. 23, to extend its win streak to three and reach the highest regional rank in program history. The blue-and-gold land below Babson (5-3-1) and Emerson (4-2-2), while the Rams CCC counterparts Gordon and Nichols sit fourth and eighth in the region, respectively.

At 5-2-1 on the year, Suffolk has the best record through eight tilts since 2006 when it compiled a 6-2-0 ledger through eight outings. The Rams have a powerful 18-goal offense that has seen 15 student-athletes record at least one point, while keepers Nathan Harlow and Xander Balog have combined for four shutouts and an impressive 0.88 GAA.

The ranking is not the only recognition the Rams have received this season. Suffolk has been featured in every edition of the CCC weekly awards with six in four weeks of action, the most weekly awards in a single season for a men's soccer squad since 2016. This week, Suffolk swept the conference's weekly awards as Diego Pierantozzi was named CCC Offensive Player and Harlow brought home both CCC Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week status. The sweep is a first for men's soccer according to the week-by-week record book, which date back through the 2009 campaign.

Suffolk looks to continue to make history this weekend when it opens a three-game road trip at MIT Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 5 p.m.
