Men’s Soccer Falls in CCC Championship to Roger Williams, 2-1

BRISTOL, R.I. – Suffolk men's soccer slipped in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship as the second-seeded Hawks of Roger Williams scored two goals over a 5:15 span in the second half to take down the fourth-seeded Rams, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Bayside Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After playing a scoreless first half, the Hawks broke through with a goal after Niall Shea hit the ball into Justin Horvath on the heel of his foot, that Horvath buried into the net in the 55th minute of play.  

Roger Williams put away a second when CJ Souse put a ball into the box for Liam Blaisdell, who finished it going into the corner of the net, taking a 2-0 lead. 

With their backs against the wall, Suffolk attempted to mount a comeback, Jeremy Cook scored unassisted with 1:58 on the clock.  

RWU was able to hold over the final two minutes to capture the CCC crown.  

NETMINDER NOTES                                                                                               

  • Xander Balog registered six saves in the championship contest. 
  • Jack Avellar had one stop for the Hawks.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Cook contributed Suffolk's lone goal. 
  • Roger Williams outshot the Rams, 15-10, including an 8-2 shots on goal advantage. 
  • The Hawks had more corner kicks than the Rams, 7-2.

  • Suffolk competed in its first CCC Championship contest. 
  • The Rams played in a league postseason championship for the second time in program history, first since the 2010 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Finals.
