BOSTON – Suffolk men's soccer caps off its regular-season schedule at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park Tuesday, Oct. 18 when Western New England stops by for a 7:00 p.m. Commonwealth Coast Conference clash.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk men's soccer played to a 1-1 draw at Curry Friday night at Walter M. Katz Field. The Rams held onto one-goal lead in the final minutes, however, the Colonels snuck in the equalizer with 19 seconds remaining in regulation to for the Commonwealth Coast Conference stalemate.

SUFFOLK SCORES

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk is unbeaten in its last three to carry an 8-4-3 overall record and 3-1-2 CCC mark into Tuesday's tangle.  

The Rams have potted nine goals over in its latest unbeaten stretch to bring their season total to 28 strikes. Carter Van Buskirk anchors the offense with 12 points on team-best numbers in goals (4) and assists (4). Taj Jensen (3g, 3a) and Brady Sorensen (4g, 1a) are on the verge of double-digit points with nine apiece. Tommy Handlesman (1g, 4a) has tied Buskirk with a squad-high four helpers to his credit as well. 

Xander Balog has been Suffolk's only keeper this season. The sophomore has built a 1.13 GAA and .770 save percentage over all 15 games for an 8-4-3 record with seven shutouts.  

GET TO KNOW THE GOLDEN BEARS
Western New England has sandwiched 1-0 wins at Gordon and the University of New England around a 5-1 setback to Salve Regina to sit at 7-5-3 on the season and 4-2-0 against CCC competition.  

The Golden Bears' 20-goal offense is powered by Sean Lanzillo, Mike Milazzo and Matt Spruill, all of which have found the back of the net three times this season. Lanzillo has set-up two shots as well to hold the team's top spot in points with eight. Milazzo has one helper to sit second on the squad in points with seven. In addition to that threesome, Roger Leland (2g, 2a) has factored into the offensive output on multiple occasions as well. 

Leland not only helps the attack, but he has backstopped WNE in nine games, with seven starts in net. He holds a 0.60 GAA and .783 save percentage for a 5-2-2 record with five cleansheets. Jacob Wadas assembled a 1.84 GAA and .692 save percentage in his six games played, four of which he started. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk is 1-6-0 against Western New England since 2002. 
  • The Rams renewed a rivalry a year ago, meeting for the first time in a decade. 
  • Suffolk fell in the last meeting, 2-1, Oct. 2, 2021. 
  • The blue-and-gold last defeated WNE, Oct. 11, 2003, 1-0. 
  • Five matchups between the Rams and Golden Bears resulted in shutouts. Suffolk is 1-4 in those bouts. 
  • Four contests have been decided by a one-goal margin. The Rams trail the Golden Bears 1-3 in that category.
