BOSTON – Suffolk men's soccer has a fully booked weekend slate as the Rams will host both Westfield State and Lasell at East Boston Memorial Park's James A. Sartori Stadium. The Owls stop by Saturday, Sept. 4 for a 3 p.m. first kick with the Lasers paying a visit to Eastie on Sunday, Sept. 5 at 12 p.m.

SUFFOLK ATHLETICS 2021-22 FAN POLICY
Suffolk University Athletics, following guidance from the University's health and safety protocols, Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), Centers for Disease Control and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, plans to allow fans to attend home athletic contests during the 2021-22 academic and athletic year.

Fans, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, can attend games. They must be masked the entire time they are on campus, pursuant to institutional policy, and complete a health screening form at the security desk of each building upon arrival. This policy applies to home contests played on campus at the Ridgeway Building's Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court, as well as the Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink and the Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

For outdoor outings, specifically at East Boston Memorial Park, fans are asked to respect COVID safety protocols. At this time, masks will not be mandated for fans no matter vaccinated status at outdoor venues.

LAST TIME OUT
Rain poured from start to finish, but it was no match for Suffolk men's soccer as it opened the 2021 campaign and the Bill Maddock era with an impressive 4-0 cleansheet over Mass. Maritime Wednesday night at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk poured in four goals through a rain storm, season-opening four-nill win over Mass. Maritime to begin both the year and the Bill Maddock era. 

The four goals came off of three different boots with freshman Miguel Varela responsible for a pair. Dai Podziewskiand Jack Phelps each potted the rock once as well. Assist wise, Edward AbouzeidNigel Leo and Declan Mee set-up one Suffolk score in the season-debut. The four goals marked the most by the Rams in their first game of a campaign since a 4-1 win over Regis got the 2012 campaign going.  

In net, Xander Balog stood tall in his collegiate debut with a five-save effort.  

OWLS OUTLOOK
Westifeld State lifted the lid on 2021 Wednesday as well. The Owls downed Fisher, 2-1, to bring a 1-0-0 ledger into Saturday's showdown.  

Ryan Cassidy and Jake Silvestre registered the Owls' goals, while Nick Brown assisted on both. Alberto Burgos Jr. notched an assist in game one as well.  

Griffin Brown backstopped Westfield State to victory. The goaltender holds a 1.00 GAA and .750 save percentage. He is one of three Owls' netminders on roster with sophomores Drew Adams, Emilio Mancuso and Collin O'Brien possible options in between the pipes this weekend.

LASERS LOOK
Lasell will begin its 2021 calendar Saturday, Sept. 4 at Elms. 

The Lasers bring back a dozen players from 2019's squad that went 6-14-1 overall. In that group is Edson DaSilva (3g), Jake Ouellette (2g), Kevin Pitt (1g, 1a) and Alex Melo (1g), who aided to Lasell's 20-goal offense two years ago. 

Zack Laware is the only returning set of goalie gloves. He had four games of experience in 2019 and holds a 4.60 GAA and .621­­ career save percentage. Freshmen Gabriel Bazikas and Antonio Centracchio will add depth in net. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk and Lasell have met every season since 2002. In that span, the Rams are 4-8-4 against the Lasers. 
  • Suffolk boasts identical home and away records versus Lasell, 2-4-2. 
  • The Lasers won the last meeting by a 3-1 decision Oct. 23, 2019. 
  • The blue-and-gold's last win over Lasell came by a 3-1 score Sept. 15, 2018. 
  • There have been six shutouts in the series. Suffolk is 1-4-1 when a team is kept off the scoreboard.
