EAST BOSTON – Suffolk men's soccer saw its GNAC opener spoiled as Albertus Magnus broke open a 1-all tie in the 106th minute thanks to a penalty shot to take the conference clash, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team could get anything going early on. Albertus Magnus saw several prime opportunities though with the first one coming in just 10 minutes in as Salah Oumorou gained control of the ball on a breakaway off of a pinpoint forward pass but Declan Mee thwarted the chance by getting in the way of the shot.  

Nearly five minutes later Suffolk had an opportunity of its own as senior Christian Restrepo ripped off a shot in the box, but Albertus Magnus goalie Garfield Robinson made a spectacular diving save. Freshman Sunjoon Tenorio gained possession of the ball on the follow up, but his shot was off the mark, to keep the match scoreless.

The scoreless first half wasn't the same story in the second as both teams got going in the opening minutes. Firs the Falcons went on the attack and eliminated their zero on the scoreboard in the first minute of the second stanza. Manuel Lanouette lofted a ball into the center of the box and Peter Rivera headed it in past the outstretched arms of Rams goalie Tom Bennett.  

Less than minute later, 20 seconds to be exact, Tenorio responded for the Rams. The rookie sent a rocket past Robinson to tie the game. 

In the 78th minute the Falcons had an opportunity to go ahead. Abdoul Afful had a free run down the right sideline and lofted a centering pass to Oumorou, who sent the shot high over the top post.  

Despite both teams seeing chances over the final 12 minutes of play, neither was able to tact a mark on the board to force the extra frame. 

Three minutes into the first overtime, senior Simon Velez Angel blasted a shot from the top right corner of the box, but it sailed high, and another overtime ensued. 

With just under five minutes left on the clock, Oumoro drew a penalty in the box for his one-on-one chance with Bennett. The Falcon bested Bennett in the right lower corner with 4:23 left in the second OT to seal the 2-1 victory for the visitors. 

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

• Bennett turned away five shots for the Rams. 
• Robinson picked up nine saves in the victory for Albertus Magnus.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

• Tenorio was responsible for Suffolk's lone goal. 
• The Rams had 28 shots compared to the Falcons 20. 
• Albertus Magnus held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.  

NOTEWORTHY

• Tenorio's boot has scored both of the Rams' goals in each of the last two games.
