Men’s Soccer Shutouts Mt. Ida, 3-0

EAST BOSTON – The Suffolk men's soccer team blanked Mt. Ida, 3-0, at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After a scoreless 45 minutes, Suffolk jump started its offense with Jordan Casey getting the ball going less than three minutes out of the locker room. James Fisher tacked on a pair of goals in the 64th minute in a 28 second span to make it a 3-0 ball game. Anchored by Jon Brodeur, the Rams backline kept the Mustangs off the scoreboard to secure the 3-0 cleansheet.

GOALS

  • From the left side, 40 yards out, sophomore Felipe Ucros crossed the ball to the middle to a spring Casey, who volleyed the rock in midair to the top left corner and open the scoring in the 48th minute.
  • Fisher got in on the scoring action on a breakaway. The sophomore deked Mustangs netminder Riley Ford to make it a 2-0 Suffolk ball game.
  • Again on a breakaway, Fisher beat Ford to the right and snuck the ball to the lower left side to push the Rams' advantage to 3-0. 

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Brodeur earned his first decision in net this season. The sophomore made four saves in the victory.
  • Ford registered nine saves in the setback.

STATISICALLY SPEAKING

  • Fisher led Suffolk's attack with a pair of markers with Casey chipping in one goal.
  • Ucross dished out the lone assist on the afternoon.
  • Suffolk held an advantage in shots, 22-8, shots on goal, 12-4, and corner kicks, 9-3.

NOTEABLES

  • Suffolk improved to 9-3-2 versus Mount Ida since 2003.
  • The Rams shutout the Mustangs for the second straight meeting.
  • Throughout the series, there have been four cleanseets with the blue-and-gold holding a 3-1-0 mark in such games.
  • Fisher's two goal marks a career best for the sophomore.
  • Fisher is the second Ram to record multi-goal game this season and first since Christian Restrepo put away a hat trick in a 5-2 win at Emerson Sept. 6, 2017.
