No. 6 Curry Too Much for Men’s Hockey

CANTON, Mass. – Suffolk men's hockey fell in a hole in the first period it could not find its way out of and ultimately fall to Conference of New England (CNE) counterpart, No. 6 Curry, 6-2, Friday night at Canton Ice House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Curry's offense was firing on all cylinders from the get go as it scored 59 seconds into the contest and went on to score five unanswered over the first 20 minutes to send Suffolk into the first intermission down 5-0.  

The Rams got on the board 4:41 into the middle period behind a power play goal from Ralph Berry, who had help from Tommy Whitford.  

Scott McManus etched his name on the scoresheet with a power play goal of his own 4:22 later when he put away a feed from Nick Liotino to slice the gap down to three at the midway point of the second stanza. 

Victor Daigneault netted an unassisted marker at the 12:57 mark of the second to restore a four-goal gap, which remained the rest of the way following a scoreless third, for the 6-2 final.  

NETMINDER NOTES

  • CJ Hapward took the loss with eight saves in the first period. 
  • Max Banoun notched nine saves in 40 minutes of play. 
  • Shan Soderwall earned the win with a 20-save effort. 
  • Jon Kopack turned aside the lone shot he faced in 6:04 of play.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Berry and McManus had one goal each. 
  • Liotino and Whitford both dished out one assist each. 
  • Shots were even at 23-all. 
  • The Rams went 2-for-5 on the power play. 
  • The Colonels converted half of their power plays (2-4). 
  • Curry held the edge in face-off action, 35-25.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk potted multiple power play goals for the first time since scoring four in a 5-1 win at Wentworth Jan. 20, 2024. 
  • Berry registered his second goal for the season. 
  • McManus notched his fourth strike of the year. 
  • Liotino logged his fifth assist of the season. 
  • Whitford recorded his third assist of the campaign.
