Men’s Hockey Jet Sets to Tampa College Hockey Invitational

BOSTON – Suffolk men's hockey took its talents to the Sunshine State for the Tampa College Hockey Invitational. The Rams open the action at the AdventHealth Center Ice Friday, Jan. 3 versus Albertus at 4:30 p.m. and will showdown against either Tufts or the Milwaukee School of Engineering Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT
For the second time in as many meetings and nights, Suffolk men's hockey snuck by Johnson & Wales by a 1-0 margin. The shutout completed a Conference of New England home-and-home series sweep of the Wildcats and was behind the lone goal by Ryan Webb and a 17-save effort by CJ Hapward.

SUFFOLK SCORES

RAMS RUNDOWN
After nearly a month off for finals and the holidays, Suffolk brings a 6-4-2 overall mark behind a four-game unbeaten streak down south.  

The blue-and-gold's 21-goal offense has been well-balanced with multiple players holding over four points apiece in Ryan Webb (4g, 3a), Gavin Havens (3g, 2a), Scott McManus (2g, 3a), Michael McEachern (1g, 3a), Josh Milso(2g, 2a) and Jack Robinson (2g, 2a). 

CJ Hapward is the usual go-to goalie for the Rams. In 12 games played, all starts, he boasts a 1.68 GAA and .935 save percentage with a 6-4-2 ledger that features three shutouts.  

FALCONS FACTS
Albertus Magnus holds a 4-4-1 overall record and wrapped up its first semester play with a 4-0 setback to then No. 9 Trinity.  

Paden Hicks (3g, 3a) and Tyler Ignazzitto (2g, 5a) have powered the Falcons' 20-goal scoring unit that has also received six points from Tim Manning (2g, 4a). 

Matt Lenz is the usual starter in net for Albertus. In five appearances, all starts, he has put together a 2.70 GAA and .900 save percentage with a 2-2-1 ledger. Chace Hale has also taken the ice in five games, starting two. He holds a 2-2-0 record with a 2.17 GAA and .935 save percentage.  

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • The series between Suffolk and Albertus Magnus started a year ago. 
  • The Rams fell in the first regular-season contest versus the Falcons, 6-2, in East Boston, Oct. 27, 2023. 
  • Suffolk and the Falcons will face off on a neutral sheet for the first time. 

STATS SHOWDOWN
 

JUMBOS JIST
Tufts brings a 4-4-1 overall mark to Florida. The Jumbos won the North Country Tournament, before falling at Colby (6-4) and Bowdoin (4-3) to wrap up its first semester play.  

Four different players have hit the double-digit point plateau in less than 10 games in Max Resnick (5g, 6a), Tyler Sedlak (5g, 5a), Jon Horn (4g, 6a) and Trave Norwell (4g, 6a). Harrison Barianos (4g, 5a) and Brennan Horn (3g, 6a) are on the verge of double figures in the point category as well to be consistent contributors to Tufts' 34-goal offense.  

All three of the Jumbos netminders have seen time this season. Gustave Bylin has the most action under his belt with eight games, seven starts, with a 3.60 GAA and .884 save percentage. Tade Carman (3.07 GAA, .901 save percentage) and Spencer Rose round out the contingent with three appearances and one appearance, respectively.

  • Suffolk and Tufts could renew a rivalry this weekend. 
  • The Rams and Jumbos have met 43 times dating back to 1977-78 with the last coming Jan. 12, 2016. 
  • Overall, Suffolk its 8-32-3 all-time against Tufts.

RAIDERS REVIEW
The Milwaukee School of Engineering dropped a two-game series at then-No. 7 Adrian prior to the holidays to move to 3-7-1 on the year.  

Carson Jones leads the Raiders' scoring with 10 points on three goals and a team-high seven assists. Seth Bernard's eight-point stat line, good for second on the squad, is evenly divided between a squad-best four goals and four assists. 

Austin Schwab is the usual starter in between the pipes for MSOE. In nine games played he has put together a 2.81 GAA and .893 save percentage.
