Men’s Golf Starts Season with Suffolk Invitational Thursday


BOSTON – Suffolk men's golf 2020-21 campaign gets underway this Thursday, April 8 with the Suffolk Invitational. The quad match, which features Gordon, Wentworth and the University of New England, has a 1 p.m. tee time at the George Wright Golf Course in Hyde Park.

RAPID REWIND
Suffolk's season a year ago with limited to action in the fall of 2019 as the 2020 spring slate was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, similar to this year's first half of action. 

Prior to the cancellation, the Rams put up a fifth-place showing at the GNAC Championships, its final year in the conference, and had a sixth-place showing at the NEIGA Championships, its best team mark in known history

ROSTER RUNDOWN
Suffolk's roster has nearly a brand new look with just two runners in senior William Bannon and sophomore Shawn Nosky. The experience, however, is cut in half as Nosky competes for the Rams' baseball team in the spring. 

Joining Bannon is a quartet of newcomers in junior Liam Nye, sophomores Jared Sylvester and James Ventre and freshman Cameron Sinopoli.

RAMS RINGLEADERS
William Bannon
 has been tabbed the sole captain of the 2020-21 Suffolk men's golf team.

CLASS CATEGORIES
Class wise, Suffolk's squad has one senior, William Bannon, one junior, Liam Nye, three sophomores, Shawn Nosky, Jared Sylvester and James Ventre and one freshman, Cameron Sinpoli.

GEOGRAPHY 101
All, but one Rams' golfer is from the Bay State, while Jared Sylvester represents New Jersey. 

SEASON OPENERS
Suffolk will begin its season for the first time in the spring, while the Rams will host their first outing of a campaign for the first time in the Rams' record books, which date through the 2008-09 season.

AT THE HELM
Ed McMellen enters his 18th season as the Suffolk men's golf head coach. During his tenure, McMellen has garnered an All-NEIGA honoree in Owen Boggini a year ago and four All-GNAC selections.

THE COURSE
George Wright Golf Course is a Donald Ross public golf course in Hyde Park, Massachusetts that was opened in 1938 after receiving President Roosevelt's Workers Progress Administration (WPA) funding to complete the construction. 

THE COMPETITION
Suffolk will take on CCC competition Thursday in Gordon, Wentworth and the University of New England. 

SUFFOLK'S SCHEDULE
The Rams are back in action in five days at the Endicott Invitational Tuesday, April 13. The four-team tilt at the Beverly Golf Club in Beverly, Massachusetts, will serve as the final prep for the 2021 CCC Championships.
