Men’s Golf to Compete in Five Tournaments in 2017

2017 Suffolk Men's Golf Schedule

BOSTON – Five tournaments await the Suffolk men's golf team in the fall of 2017, head coach Ed McMellen announced Monday afternoon. 

After finishing in eighth place at the GNAC Championships and turning in a 16th-place performance at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championships last season, Suffolk returns to the greens at George Wright Golf Course Sept. 7 for the EC Saints Invite Sept. 7. The Rams will tee off versus the Saints, Mitchell and Wentworth. 

The following week, Suffolk heads to the William J. Devine Golf Course Sept. 20 for the Emmanuel Invitational. The quad match, which the Rams won in 2016, features Elms, Fisher and conference counterpart and host Emmanuel. 

The Saturday showdown precedes Suffolk's first two-day invitational of the season, the Blazer Fall Invitational. Suffolk heads to the Hickory Ridge Country Club in Amherst, Massachusetts Oct. 8-9. 

Rhode Island College is set to host the GNAC Championships at the Valley Country Club in Warwick, Rhode Island. The conference crown is on the line Oct. 14-15. 

The best of New England converge at Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Massachusetts, Oct. 21-22. The NEIGA Championships serves as Suffolk's fall finale.   

McMellen begins his 15th season as Suffolk's coach in 2017. The tenured coach boasts a balanced squad of veterans and rookies that look bring home the conference title for the first time in program history. Junior Stephen Ferrante looks to lead the squad that includes returners Owen Boggini and Demetrois Stamoulis, each of who were named GNAC Rookie of the Week last season.
