Golf Claims Eighth at 2015 ECAC DIII New England Championship

SOUTHWICK, Mass.  The 2015 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Golf Championship concluded Sunday, as the Suffolk Rams claimed eighth overall. 

After starting the day in ninth place with 342 points, Suffolk totaled a team score of 332 in the second round to finish with a combined two-day score of 672. Middlebury, who trailed Trinity by five strokes after day one,  overcame the deficit on the second day on the links to finish with a combine total of 591 to be crowned the best of New England. Just two strokes behind was Trinity in second, with Endicott (606), RPI (608) and Western New England (633) rounding out the top five. 

Individually, the Rams were paced by Stephen Ferrante who tied for 28th. The freshman finished the par 72, 6,588 yardage course with a 162. 

Junior Patrick Hambleton shaved 10 strokes off his first-round score to card a 9-over-par 70 and finish the tournament at 168, good for a tie in 39th. 

Mark Fusco and senior Matt Rosenberg also finished in the top-50. Fusco's 170 put the junior in a tie for 44th, while Rosenberg's 172 was good for 47th. 

Marcos Baistrocchi rounded out golfers in blue-and-gold as the sophomore carded a 186 for 62nd place. 

Suffolk sets its sights on the GNAC Championship, which are scheduled for October 17-18 at the Allendale Country Club in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
