BOSTON – The Suffolk men's basketball team put on a show for its home crowd in its first action inside Regan Gymnasium of 2019 as the Rams ran past Regis, 82-52, in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Regis commanding the opening action and put Suffolk in a six-point hole quickly. Jim Djema kept the Rams in the contest as the senior swapped hoops with the Pride to bring the Rams within three, 10-7.  

Alex Jacovides and Brendan Mulson then sandwiched threes around a Regis bucket to make it a one-point game, 14-13 at the 13:18 minute mark.  

Jacovides sharp shooting from long range continued and gave the hosts their first lead of the day as the game transition into back-and-forth action.  

After a timeout on the floor, Jacovides put on a shooting clinic, outscoring Regis 8-2 to himself to put the Rams in front 25-19.  

From there, Suffolk built on its advantage with Mulson's second triple of the night extending its lead to double figures, 31-21, 5:10 remaining in the first half.  

To help out the Rams' hot hands offensively, the Pride was unable to connect on a field goal for nearly six minutes, which allowed the blue-and-gold to take a 38-25 half time advantage.  

Suffolk maintained the double-digit distance over the opening half of the second stanza as the Rams remained in front 55-39 as Jeff Juron talked things over with his team in a timeout with 10:59 left on the clock.  

Out of the break, Suffolk held onto a comfortable 15-point cushion that teetered to 18 here-and-there. With 5:32 on the clock, Michael Hagopian connected on a pair of freebies to push the Rams' lead 20, 67-47.   

The Rams did not let up from there and went up by as many as 30 on a set of free throws by Andrew Fraioli with just under one minute to play to coast to the 82-52 victory.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Five different Rams hit the double-digit mark paced by Jacovides' 17-point performance on a 6-for-8 effort from the floor and a 5-for-7 showing from downtown. 
• Djema's 14 points came off a 6-for-7 field goal night for the senior, who added four boards and two helpers. 
• Mulson finished the action with 11 points to go along with three caroms, three dimes and one takeaway. 
• Hagopian and Steven DiPrizio each had 10 points to their credit. The former added three rebounds, two steals, one block and one dime, while the latter pitched in three boards and two set-ups. 
• Suffolk shot an impressive 61.7 percent (29-47) from the field, 56.5 percent (13-23) from three-point land and 91.7 percent (11-12) from the charity stripe. 
• The Rams won the battle on the glass as well, 31-29.  

NOTEWORTHY

• Suffolk and Regis met as non-conference foes for the first time. 
• The Rams defeated the Pride for the first time in the all-time series, which began last season. 
• Powers matched a personal-best three assists. 
• Jacovides matched a career-high five triples made.
