Roger Williams Walks Off Baseball in Nightcap, 7-6

BRISTOL, R.I. – In back-and-forth action, Suffolk baseball came out on the wrong side of a 7-6 decision as Roger Williams broke a 6-all tie in the bottom of the seventh behind a double from Ethan Keeney to walk off with the second game of a Conference of New England (CNE) doubleheader, 7-6, Saturday at Paolino Field.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 6 | Roger Williams 7
RECORDS: Suffolk (6-10, 1-1 CNE) | Roger Williams (6-8, 1-1 CNE)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams traded one run in the third inning to keep things even. Suffolk scored with a two-out rally as Colin Flynn worked a walk and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Cole Hilliard's single to left center put the first run of the game on the board.

Three innings later both teams scored again. A walk set-up the Rams run. This time Chris Cimino worked the base on balls and swiped second. He stayed there as the first two outs went on the boards before Max Martin hit a single through the left side to give the Rams a 2-1 lead.

Roger Williams flipped the script in its favor, 3-2, with a Rams error that allowed the tying run to come in before Owen Hibbard's double down the left field line plated the go-ahead tally.

Sam Armbruster's sac fly in the top of the eighth that brough in Cimino, who led off the frame with a base hit to right, leveled the playing field at 3-all.

The Hawks answered to Suffolk's scoring once again with a three-run home half of the inning behind three hits and a sac fly to put the blue-and-gold in a 6-3 hole.

RWU was one out away from locking up the victory in the top of the night before Hilliard and Cimino both walked and Alex Sorenti-Burns wore a pitch to put all the ducks on the pond. Max Iorio slugged a bases-clearing triple to right center to knot things at 6-all.

Braden Ventura singled through the left side to get the bottom of the ninth underway. Nick Sheehan pushed him over with a sac and Keeney traded places with him behind a two-bagger to left center to help RWU slip past Suffolk, 7-6.
