RECORDS: Suffolk (5-9) | WPI (7-4)
HOW IT HAPPENED
WPI grabbed a two-run lead in the first frame thanks to a two-run single by Andrew Cash to right center.
The Rams answered in the bottom of the second. Max Martin walked, advanced to second on an infield single by Sam Armbruster and sprinted in on a fielding mishap by the Engineers' first baseman when Sebastian Lampert put the ball into play. With the bases loaded and one out, Armbruster scored the tying run behind a fielder's choice to make it 2-2.
A pair of sac flies sent Suffolk in front in the home half of the third. Max Martin and Armbruster, who scored the Rams' runs an inning before, brought the go-ahead runs in.
A solo shot by Sorenti-Burns in the bottom of the fifth extended the blue-and-gold's advantage to three, 5-2.
An inning later, Sorenti-Burns hit his second dinger of the day. This time he brought Chris Cimino, who singled, with him, to extend the margin to five, 7-2.
The Engineers offense managed to get back onto the board in the top of the eighth when DiMichel doubled to left center to bring in Cash, who led off the inning with a walk. Nolan Drew managed to get out of the inning was just one run allowed to keep the blue-and-gold in front, 7-3.
After a 3-up, 3-down inning for the Rams, Jack Raimo came in to shove the final frame. He let up two base hits and faced a runners in the corners situation with two outs. The sophomore's infield backed up the closure with a routine ground out to second to seal the victory.
