BABSON PARK, Mass. – Suffolk baseball dropped a 7-2 non-conference decision to Babson Wednesday afternoon at Govoni Field.  

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
Babson nearly batted around the order in the bottom of the first to take a 3-0 lead that it never let go. 

The Beavers added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth before Suffolk got on the board in the top of the seventh. Sam Armbruster led off with a single through the left side hustled home when Michael Cole doubled. A sac fly from Michael James Jr. brought in Cole to pull the Rams within four, 6-2. 

A lead-off solo shot by Tanner Santos opened the home half of the seventh to length the host's lead back to five, 7-2, where it stood at the conclusion of the contest. 

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Harry Painter took the loss after giving up three runs on two hits and six walks with one strikeout in 4.0 innings of action. 
  • Caleb Piwnicki let up four runs, three earned, on seven hits. 
  • Tristen Splater picked up the win with a two-run, eight-hit, six-strikeout effort in 7.0 frames of work. 
  • Tim Person and Stephen McLendon each tossed 1.0 inning of scoreless, hitless relief. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Suffolk's eight hits were scattered across eight bats. 
  • Jonny GilbrideGarret RobertsLuke Harder and Cole all barreled a double to make up half of the Rams eight hits.
  • Max Iorio, Painter, Marc Birbiglia, and Armbruster all singled once.
  • Cole and James brought in one run apiece. 
  • Armbruster and Cole scored one run each.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Gilbride stretched his hit streak to five games. In that stretch he has 11 hits. 
  • Iorio extended his hit streak to seven games. In that span he has a dozen hits. 
  • Gilbride, Painter and Roberts all recorded a hit in all, but one of Suffolk's games this season.
  • Roberts is on an 11-game hit streak. 
  • Cole contributed his first double as a Ram.
