
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Running against some of the best teams in the region and in the country, Suffolk women's cross country turned in a seventh-place showing at the Cardinal Invitational Saturday morning at The Wes Fuhrman '05 Trails Cross Country Course.
The Rams combined for 180 points to take seventh in the field of 10, two spots ahead of their Conference of New England (CNE) counterpart Endicott, who totaled 262 points, good for ninth. No. 11 Amherst won the meet with 46 points with No. 22 Vassar and No. 27 Tufts rounding out the podium with 68 points and 69 points, respectively.
SUFFOLK'S SCORERS
- Amalia Dorion paced Suffok's squad with a 22:49.9 6k to claim 32nd. She was the best CNE student-athlete on the 6k course.
- Sydney Fogg came through the finisher's chute three spots (35th) behind Dorion in 22:59.3
- Amy Pattelena was right behind Fogg with a 23:03.4 to take 36th.
- Sofia Moukaddem placed 40th with a 23:10.0.
- Paige Estaphan crossed the tape in 23:56.3 to lock up 67th.
- Emily Concepcion clocked a 24:21.5 to take 80th.
- Shannon Groom rounded out the Rams' scorers with an 82nd-place performance behind a time of 24:26.0.
RAMS RECORDS
- Fogg (22:59.3), Estaphan (23:56.3) and Maria Gallant (29:16.4) notched personal records in the 6k Saturday.
THAT'S A FIRST
- Dorion and Moukaddem raced a 6k in Suffolk blue-and-gold for the first time.
- Groom, Megan Dunn (24.35.3), Taylor Farrell (25:41.0), Gina Cappello (26:11.5), and Katarina Ferreira(31:59.0) raced the first 6ks of their collegiate careers.
DEBUTS
- Pattelena and Estaphan made their season debuts Saturday.
MORE RAM RUNNERS
- Bailey Ford (26:09.6) and Jaenelle Bryant (31:49.0) ran the 6k as well.
