Women’s Cross Country Remains Ninth in East Region in USTFCCCA Poll

NEW ORLEANS – For the second straight week, Suffolk women's cross country appeared in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) Coaches Regional Rankings. The Rams remained ninth in the East after their efforts in the season-opening effort at the Short Course Classic last Friday, Sept. 2, the national organization announced Tuesday afternoon. 

Suffolk raced to a fifth-place performance at its own season-opening meet, the Short Course Classic. The Rams combined for 189 points on the 3.1k course to be the top Division III team in the field of 15, which featured Northeastern, Boston University, Brown and Holy Cross, who took spots one through four.  

The USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Coaches' Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each representative region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning teams' strengths with current season results, when applicable, in determine a rank-order of squad potential. Only USTFCCCA member programs are eligible to receive a ranking. The weekly regional ranking by the USTFCCCA began in 2010.  

The Rams remain ninth after appearing in the preseason ranking in the same spot. The blue-and-gold has been featured in the poll since concluding 2021 in the ninth position. Suffolk is the only Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) member to earn a place on the week one edition of the poll. 

Suffolk returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 17 when it takes its talents to the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
