Women’s Cross Country Tabbed Ninth in USTFCCCA Regional Preseason Ranks

USTFCCCA RELEASE

NEW ORLEANS – A week and a half away from the first event of the 2022 season, Suffolk women's cross country appeared in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Preseason Regional Rankings as the ninth team in the East, the national organization unveiled.

It is the first time in the program's history that the Rams women emerged on the preseason regional list and is the highest regional rank for the women's team in the team's history. Overall, it marks the second time that Suffolk earned a regional ranking, first since the blue-and-gold women made their debut on the list in the 10th spot in the week seven edition of the 2021 season Nov. 2, 2021.

The Rams are the only Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) squad to be featured on the 2022 preseason regional rankings. Additionally, Suffolk is one of eight institutions to see both their men's and women's programs to be recognized with the men's team earning the eighth-place in the preseason predictions.

The USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Coaches' Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning teams' strengths with current season results, when applicable, in determining a rank-order of squad potential. Only USTFCCCA member programs are eligible to receive a ranking. The weekly regional ranking by the USTFCCCA began in 2010.

Suffolk is just over a week away from its first meet of 2022, the Short Course Classic, which is on the calendar for Friday, Sept. 2 at Franklin Park at 11:30 a.m.
