BIDDEFORD, Maine – Suffolk women's cross country's Gwen Koziara garnered Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week status thanks to her top-50 finish at the 40th Mike Woods Invitational, the league office unveiled Monday afternoon.
Koziara had the best Rams race as the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania product came through the 6k finisher's chute in 23:55.8 to claim 49th out of the 321 field. The freshman anchored Suffolk in one of the most competitive courses to date as there were multiple national ranked programs at the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo, New York, including No. 13 Geneseo, No. 15 Middlebury, No. 26 RIT and No. 29 Rochester.
The weekly accolade is Koziara's third this season as she swept the conference's weekly accolades two weeks ago. She is responsible for all three of Suffolk's weekly nods this year.
Koziara and Suffolk is off this weekend and will be back in action at its own meet, the Suffolk Invite, Saturday, Oct. 16 at Franklin Park. That outing will also serve as the Battle for Boston Common, a head-to-head match between the Rams and their Boston neighbor Emerson.
