BOSTON – Suffolk women's cross country is set to be led by Olivia Chilcott as head coach Will Feldman named the junior captain of the 2020 squad.
"Liv has proven to be an important leader for our women's team," Feldman said. "She is the glue that holds the team together. Not only is she one of the hardest workers around, she is also an incredible teammate. She is always bringing the energy we need, and is also the person the team looks to in times of need. When I was recruiting her what stood out to me was her leadership potential, and it has been great to see her grow into that roll here at Suffolk."
Chilcott has large shoes to fill, taking over for two of the most decorated runners in Suffolk cross country history, Emma Manfra and Emma Weisse. Luckily though, she was teammates with the pair that helped recreate the Rams' record books with back-to-back runner-up performances at the GNAC Championships, as well as the highest team regional runs in program history.
It was on the last GNAC course in Standish, Maine, that the Pembroke, Massachusetts, product produced her fastest 6K time, clocking in at 26:18.3 to claim 21st in the 94-runner field. Her personal bests in 5K and 3.2 K came in 2019 as well.
Academically the pre-law student-athlete, who belongs to both Suffolk's indoor and outdoor track & field teams as well, excels as well with a spot on the GNAC All-Academic Team in 2019-20 and four Suffolk AD Honor Roll honorees to her credit.
Chilcott and the Rams had to navigate a non-traditional fall semester that saw races cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The blue-and-gold was able to get training sessions – both individual and socially distanced team workouts – in, with potential competitions in the Spring of 2021.
