Women Place 3rd, Men Place 4th In Cross Country Opener

The Suffolk University Cross-Country teams opened the 2014 season posting team finishes of third for the women, and fourth for the men in the Travis J. Fuller Invitational hosted by Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Saturday morning.

Senior Kelly Warwick (Newburyport, Mass.) posted the Women's top individual time in the 5K race as she came across with a time of 22:56 for the sixth best time of the race. Sophomore Sara Middleton (Otis, Mass.) recorded Suffolk's second best time coming in at 23:17 for an eighth place finish.

Rounding out the field for the women were: Madison Eucalitto whose pace of a 7:56 mile ranked her 16th overall. Jamie Marilyn Dodd place 22nd in the race, while senior Catalina Rufin (Arlington, Mass.) rounded out the field placing 23rd at 25:55.

Suffolk finished with an overall point total of 75. Curry College was the winner of the event as they came with a team total of 35 points.

The Men's Cross Country team rounded out with a placing of fourth overall out of six teams with 115 points.

Senior Mohammed Hayibor (Dakar, Senegal) finished ninth overall is the 8K race as he cross the finish line with a time of 30:44.

Suffolk then had five runners finish in five consecutive spaces to round out the top 30 placements.

Junior Eddie Lui (Boston, Mass.) finished 25th overall with a time of 36:52. Junior Cal Carroll (Methuen, Mass.) came in at 26 with a time of 36:55; sophomore Tim Conroy (Arlington, Mass.) came in at a time at 37:07 while David Puron rounded out the field with a time of 37:10.

Suffolk will be back in action on September 20 as they travel  to Rivier University for the Raiders Invitational.
