Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Begins Quest for CCC Championship

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – Suffolk women's outdoor track & field started its quest for the 2024 Commonwealth Coast Conference crown Friday at Portsmouth High School as seven Rams competed in three events. 

Suffolk collected five team points in the hammer throw. Sharaden Caldwell was just outside the podium as the freshman finished fourth with a 34.02-meter heave. Gracie O'Connell was two spots behind her with a 32.12-meter effort. Lydia Comprosky notched a personal-best 27.19 to claim 11th in the field of 17and Emma Withers placed 14th with a career-high of her own with a 25.17-meter throw in her CCC debut. 

Catherine Madden made the 100-meter hurdles finals as the junior clocked a 16.29 to take second in the behind Endicott's Olivia Novello, who finished in 16.13. The blue-and-gold's junior will race for the conference championship in the event tomorrow at approximately noon. Madden's time marks her individual best showing at the league championship and the best performance in the event by a Ram at CCCs.  

Suffolk had a pair of Rams compete in the long jump in Evelyn Lansing and Leticia Lantero, both of whom made their CCCs debut. Lansing's 4.57-meter leap put the freshman in ninth in the 16-competitior field, while Lantero logged a 4.52-meter jump, good for 12th. 

In fifth after two days of competition, the Rams look to move up the team ranks in the final day of the CCC Championship tomorrow, Saturday, April 27.
