SOMERVILLE, Mass. – Suffolk women's outdoor track & field got its 2024 season underway Saturday at the Tufts Snowflake Classic at the Dussault Track. The Rams finished 17th in the 20-team field.
RAMS RUNNDERS
- Suffolk saw three Rams, all in their outdoor debut, spring the 100 in JJ Conteh (13.09), Letricia Lantero (14.15) and Chelsea Fallon. Conteh's time was good for 10th in the 46-runner field.
- Maria Gallant clocked a 6:11.53 in the 1500.
- Catherine Madden hurdled to ninth in the 100 with a time 16.64. Hilma Ortega also participated in the event and finished 17th with a 17.84 showing.
- The foursome of Fallon, Madden, Ortega and Conteh represented the Rams in the 4x100 and combined for a time of 53.25, good for seventh place.
JUMPERS JIST
- The foursome of Kara Sickle (3.25), Devyn Battistoni (3.25), Sasha Helfgott-Waters (3.10) and Molly Hennegan (2.95) competed in the pole vault. Two places separated Sickls and Battistoni in sixth and eighth, respectively, and Helfgott-Waters and Hennegan in 11th and 13th, respectively.
- Lantero (4.51) and Evelyn Lansing each competed in the long jump.
THROWERS THOUGHTS
- Divinety Johnson was the lone Ram to participate in the shot put (8.82m).
- Johnson (28.66) was featured in the discus as well alongside Maddie Moore (29.99) and Lydia Comprosky (23.15). Moore's heave was good for ninth, while Johnson secured 11th and Comprosky took 28th in the 35-thrower field.
- Gracie O'Connell took 10th in the hammer with a 34.41-meter toss. Sharaden Caldwell, meanwhile, tossed the hammer, 30.59 meters, good for 19th
- O'Connell also took 10th in the javelin with a 29.37-meter heave. Olivia Nicholson's 25.36-meter toss was good for 19th and Emma Withers locked up 26th with a 23.29-meter showing.
RAMS RECORDS
- Hennegan had a personal-best in the pole vault with 2.95.
- O'Connell logged a personal record in the hammer (34.41) and javelin (29.37).
YOU'RE NEW HERE
- Conteh (100), Gallant (1500), and Ortega (100 hurdles) all ran in an outdoor meet for the first time in their collegiate careers.
- Fallon (100) competed in outdoors for the first time in her collegiate career.
- Battistoni (pole vault), Helfgott-Waters (pole vault), Johnson (shot put, discus), Lansing (long jump), and Caldwell (hammer) made their collegiate debuts as well.
- Lantero (100) made her outdoor debut at Suffolk.

Suffolk has two events on its calendar next weekend, April 4-6, the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invite in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Virginia.
