BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Suffolk women's outdoor track & field rewrote the Rams' record books over the weekend as three program records fell when the blue-and-gold began its outdoor campaign at the BSU Bears Invitational.
Individually, Emily Concepcion and Nicole DiBenedetto claimed the top spot in the 400 and high jump respectively, on Suffolk's all-time list, while the foursome of Lauren Wood, Alyssa Rodriguez, Concepcion and Amanda Walden joined forces for a new program-best time in the 4x100.
Concepcion cruised to a 1:00.54 in the 400 to finish second in the 27-runner field that featured her teammates Amy Pattelena (1:02.98), Jocelyn Triscik (1:04.99) and Olivia DiGiacomo (1:12.24). Pattelena and Triscik took spots in the top-10 as well. The former finished fifth and the latter placed ninth.
DiBenedetto cleared 1.50 meters in the high jump to take sixth in the 16th-participant field.
In the 4x100 relay, Wood, Rodriguez, Concepcion and Walden clocked a 50.54, good for runner-up in the eight-team relay field that featured Commonwealth Coast Conference counterparts Salve Regina (fourth), Nichols (sixth) and Wentworth.
Suffolk's sprinters also raced in the 100 and 200. In the 100, Walden (12.93) and Wood (13.03) claimed fourth and sixth, respectively. Rodriguez (27.85) took eighth in the 200. Kaylie Groom made her collegiate outdoor debut in both events and Maren Halpin raced outdoors in the 200 for the first time.
Sydney Fogg had a runner-up showing in the 800 as she made two laps around the track in 2:29.10. Shannon Groom competed for the first time in her outdoor career in the event as well and locked up 12th with a time of 2:47.01.
Rams long distance runners – Sarah Roberts (10th – 5:24.96), April Banuelos (32nd – 6:11.56) and Daisey Jones (34th – 6:19.58) -- also participated in the 1500.
Isabelle Slocum and Julia Leavey represented the blue-and-gold in the 100m hurdles, both finishing in the top-10. Slocum clocked a 17.91 good for eighth and Leavey logged an 18.16 to take 10th.
Molly Hennegan (2.75) was the runner-up in the pole vault.
Lydia Comprosky and Gracie O'Connell competed in the field events for Suffolk. Both took part in the discus and javeliln. Comprosky competed in the shot put and O'Connell threw the hammer throw.
Suffolk splits up its second weekend of spring action March 31-April 1 with William & Mary's Colonial Relays Friday and Tufts Snowflake Classic Saturday.
